Aspiring Mechanical Engineer
I'm a senior Math major at Middlebury College, but I spend most of my time in CAD and at the machine shop rather than at a desk. Middlebury doesn't run its own engineering program, so I built my technical background elsewhere — a controls & mechanical research position, a manufacturing internship, and a year of mechanical engineering coursework at Dartmouth. Below are six of the things that came out of it: a fully custom SLA resin printer, a clock escapement machined from chipboard to aluminum, and four others.
A fully custom SLA resin printer — I wrote the full PLC controls framework and machined much of the hardware.
A mallet putter in 303 stainless, milled on a 4th axis — with a blade-style follow-up on the drawing board.
140 precision parts across 10 quick-release lids, machined during a manufacturing internship at Mechanical Advantage.
An assistive device that places a ball and tee for golfers with mobility issues — as fast as 5.26 seconds.
A gravity-driven, pendulum-regulated escapement, iterated from chipboard prototypes up to a fully milled clock.
A custom reaction chamber for an organic chemistry lab, 3D printed in PPS for chemical and heat resistance.
